It appeared to have been written by someone drunk or on drugs. Once I wrote and asked if they were working on the problem and received a response that was all gibberish. FTM asked to borrow my family file to research the problem, but I never heard from them again. I immediately returned the program for a refund, but had to file a dispute with my credit card company to get the refund. I purchased the new program and found that it would not even convert any of my existing books to the PDF format. They knew nothing about the problem and said that I could buy the program and return it if I had the same problem. I wanted to purchase the 2017 edition, but first asked whether this problem had been corrected. I noticed that when converting a book into PDF some of the text in the book disappeared. I have had several versions of FTM, the last one being 2012.
If you want to create family history books, stay away from Family Tree Maker. I have done very little research on FTM in the past year because of the many problems I have had with its poor performance.īiggest Pro: Being able to see duplicate people at once, view media altogether, resolve places, hints, etc., many good things, if only they would workīiggest Con: Poor performance, very slow, repeated failures to sync, constant crashes and long buffering wait times It is frustrating beyond words to have had 2017 which had no problems and to now have 2019 which is a problem every single time I try to sync and has been since Sep 2019.
I would rather work on a program that will support my research without all these ongoing problems. I do not want to spend all my time on maintenance that is exhausting. It is not his fault! The only solution seems to be is to manually link each media item to the person (now there are 212 media items that did not sync). I have been on Live Chat almost every week for hours with a fabulous senior tech, but the problem persists. With FTM 2019, I have had nothing but problems, mainly with media not syncing from Ancestry, incessant crashes when trying to delete media that is causing a problem, random minor problems with viewing (sometimes only 1 person shows up in my tree of 26,000+ people) or the view doesn’t switch to a person highlighted but stays on the same person throughout.
Try as hard as I could to solve the problems, I have had only abt 2 months of no problems since I downloaded FTM 2019 in Sep 2019, replacing 2017 which was just fine I had to problems with it.
